Collégiale Saint-Hildevert de Gournay

Collégiale Saint-Hildevert is a Romanesque church in Gournay-en-Bray with three portals along its western face and two uneven square towers rising above. The interior displays columns supporting vaulted ceilings that rise through multiple levels, creating a sense of vertical space.

The building was constructed in the 12th century on the foundation of a 10th-century predecessor. Major restoration work took place in the 19th century to repair and strengthen the structure.

The south pillars of the nave hold capitals carved with medieval designs that show how Norman craftspeople decorated sacred spaces. Walking past them, you notice the skill and care that went into every detail of the interior.

The building offers good accessibility with facilities for visitors with reduced mobility, installed during recent renovation work. The interior provides ample space for walking and exploring the various levels and architectural details throughout.

Inside stands an organ case dating to 1538, one of the oldest of its kind still in the region. This musical instrument demonstrates the craftsmanship that has been preserved for nearly 5 centuries.
