Orglandes German war cemetery, War cemetery in Orglandes, France.
The cemetery holds approximately 10,000 German soldiers arranged in 28 rows with stone crosses marking each grave. The burial sites spread across flat ground on the northern edge of Orglandes.
The cemetery began in June 1944 to hold American soldiers but was later transformed into a German burial ground. This change happened after American remains were moved to Colleville-sur-Mer.
The entrance features a small building with a bell tower where crosses display names and dates of the soldiers buried here. Visitors can read these personal details and gain a sense of the individuals remembered at this site.
The site is flat and easy to walk through, with good paths running between the grave rows for visitors of all abilities. Access is via Rue Pierre Devouassoud on the northern side of Orglandes.
A mass grave holds 22 German prisoners who died on October 25, 1945, during a mine clearance operation near Bayeux. These burials stand as a reminder of dangers that continued long after the war ended.
