Château de Vinzelles

Château de Vinzelles is a medieval castle with a pentagonal shape featuring remnants of double walls, dry moats, and round towers positioned on its eastern, southern, and western sides. The structure displays defensive architecture with preserved elements and interior spaces spanning different periods.

The castle changed ownership from the Vinzelles family to the Saint-Amour family during the 14th century. Following multiple attacks, the structure underwent major restoration work in 1621.

The interior chapel displays vaulted ceilings while the main halls preserve hunting scene paintings on their walls. These artworks show how past residents expressed their leisure and passion for hunting through decoration.

The castle is open for visits on most days during the afternoon hours, with extended access during summer months and special heritage days. It is advisable to check opening times in advance as these vary throughout the year.

Beyond the castle itself, the property includes a large vineyard with a wine cellar featuring historic wine presses dating from the 18th century. This combination reveals how castle owners used their lands for wine production alongside their defensive fortress.
