Château de Vézins

Château de Vézins is a horseshoe-shaped stone fortress positioned on a hilltop above the village with Renaissance architectural details throughout. Decorated chimneys feature sculpted coats of arms, while thick stone walls reveal its original function as a defensive stronghold.

The fortress was founded in 1120 to control and monitor the Lévezou district as a strategic stronghold. A major fire in 1642 destroyed much of the original structure, prompting extensive reconstruction that shaped its current appearance.

Inside the castle, rooms hold Aubusson tapestries and period furnishings that reflect how the family lived here through the centuries. These objects tell the story of daily life and taste across different eras.

The castle is part of the Route des Seigneurs du Rouergue, a network of roughly 23 castles across Aveyron that can be explored together. Check ahead for visiting times and whether guided tours are available at this location.

The same family has owned and inhabited this castle for roughly nine centuries, making it one of the longest continuously held family properties in the region. This remarkable continuity allowed the family to preserve the character of the place even through significant architectural changes.
