Massy International Circus Festival, International circus competition in Massy, France.
The Massy International Circus Festival is a circus competition held each January in a 48-meter diameter tent featuring a 13-meter ring within Georges Brassens Park. The venue offers workshops alongside performances, plus food and merchandise stands where visitors can engage throughout the three-day event.
Michel Bruneau established the event in 1993 following his organization of a birthday celebration for clown Achille Zavatta. What began as a single festive occasion evolved into a regular circus competition that has since drawn performers and audiences to the region.
The festival brings together performers from multiple continents who showcase their abilities in front of audiences and industry specialists. Visitors experience an international community of circus artists presenting diverse techniques and styles.
The best time to visit is during the three-day event in January when the circus tents are set up in the park. Arriving early helps secure better seating for shows and leaves time to explore the workshops and vendor areas at a relaxed pace.
The event has refined its award system multiple times, currently using Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals instead of earlier prize names. This shift in how performances are recognized reflects how the festival has adapted over the years.
