Église Notre-Dame-de-Cougnes de La Rochelle

The Église Notre-Dame-de-Cougnes is a church in La Rochelle featuring a square bell tower with slate spires and classical architectural elements from the 17th century. The building combines these features into a well-maintained structure that continues to serve as a religious and cultural center.

The structure originated in 1077 as a Cluniac priory and was rebuilt in 1653 following damage sustained during the Religious Wars of 1568. This reconstruction shaped its current appearance.

The church holds a notable pipe organ from 1850 with 35 stops that enables performances of French classical music spanning from the 18th to 20th centuries. Visitors can experience the sound of this historic instrument during religious services or special musical events.
