The Église Saint-Pierre-du-Marais de Saumur is a protected historic church in the center of Saumur, in the Loire Valley. Its 17th-century facade faces a small square, while the interior combines Romanesque rounded arches with Gothic vaulting typical of the Plantagenet style.
The church dates back to the 12th century and was rebuilt and altered over the following centuries. Its facade had to be repaired in 1674 after the foundations partially gave way, and the building was listed as a historic monument in 1862.
The church belongs to the parish of Bienheureux-Charles-de-Foucauld and still hosts regular masses, weddings, and baptisms. An organ brought from another church in Saumur in the early 19th century fills the nave during frequent concerts open to the public.
The church stands on Place Saint-Pierre in the center of Saumur and is easy to reach on foot from the town's main streets. Visiting outside of service hours gives more freedom to walk through the interior and look at the architecture closely.
Sainte Jeanne Delanoue, canonized in 1982, was baptized in this church, and the baptismal font where the ceremony took place is still inside. The wooden choir stalls dating from the 15th century are among the oldest surviving furnishings in the building.
