Château de Léran, Medieval castle in Léran, France

The Château de Léran stands on elevated ground with a 14th-century tower and incorporates architectural elements from the 15th through 19th centuries.

Built in 1163, the castle became a stronghold for the Lévis family following their involvement in the Albigensian Crusade during the 13th century.

The castle chapel contains Louis XV period woodwork transferred from Château de Lagarde, displaying Italian design influences from that era.

The castle received monument historique protection status in 1959, with additional protections granted in 1986 for its facades, roofs, and interior elements.

An extensive collection of Languedoc historical documents remains preserved in the castle archives, accessible for research since 1903.
