Château de Sibra

Château de Sibra is a castle in Lagarde that combines medieval battlements and machicolations with Renaissance-style openings and displays a medallion of Saint George on its main facade. The property includes five guest rooms, three apartments in the outbuildings, and a separate vacation house.

The castle belonged to Camon Abbey until the Espert family purchased it in 1811 and undertook significant renovations. Joseph Paul François Villary directed a major modernization of the property in 1878.

The interior spaces feature terracotta ornaments from the Virebent factory, especially visible on the large fireplaces. These handcrafted details shape how the rooms feel and show careful attention to decoration.

The property sits about 8 kilometers from the town of Mirepoix and is easy to reach. Visitors should check opening times in advance, as the castle also operates as an accommodation.

The 15-hectare park features rare plant species including ginkgo biloba and weeping beech trees, along with an artificial grotto. This botanical collection makes the grounds a place where visitors encounter unusual trees and rock formations.
