Mirepoix Cathedral, Gothic cathedral in Mirepoix, France.

Mirepoix Cathedral is a Gothic church distinguished by a single wide nave without a transept, with lateral chapels built between interior buttresses. This layout creates an open space that carries sound well throughout the church.

Construction started in 1298, and in 1317 Pope John XXII elevated it to cathedral status and made Mirepoix the new episcopal seat. This action transformed the town into a regional religious center.

The organ built in 1891 by the Link brothers showcases German craftsmanship of the nineteenth century with forty stops across three keyboards. It shapes the sound of services and concerts held within the church today.

The cathedral sits on Rue du Maréchal-Clauzel in central Mirepoix and is easily reached on foot. Keep in mind that services and events may occasionally limit access for visitors.

The private chapel of Bishop Philippe de Lévis holds a labyrinth and precious painted tiles, though it remains closed to the public. These hidden treasures show the kind of intricate details tucked away within this building.
