Château de Terride, Medieval castle in Mirepoix, France
Château de Terride is a fortification standing on a hill north of Mirepoix that combines structures from multiple medieval periods. The site includes a square tower, defensive walls, and a stone bridge that connects the hilltop to the surrounding land.
The fortification was built in the early 1100s and remained under the Bellissen family's control until 1563. It then passed to the Lévis family through a marriage arrangement involving Catherine Ursule de Lomagne.
The castle hosts the annual Castel Artès festival since 2021, presenting musical performances and artistic events in its historical setting.
Access to the site is limited due to ongoing restoration work. Visits are mainly available during heritage days organized by Pays d'art et d'histoire des Pyrénées Cathares, which offer guided walks.
The site contains buried remains of an 11th-century fortified village that lies beneath later noble structures. These layers reveal how the location transformed from a military outpost into a residence for nobility over the centuries.
