Le Grand Coin, Mountain summit in Vanoise massif, Savoie, France
Le Grand Coin is a mountain summit in the Vanoise massif in Savoie with an elevation of 2,730 meters, marked by steep slopes and exposed rock throughout. The climbing route requires mountain experience and crosses difficult terrain with little shelter.
The mountain became part of Vanoise National Park in 1963 when France established its first national park. Since then the area has been protected and managed for conservation and mountain recreation.
Shepherds use the lower slopes during summer grazing season to pasture their herds, and this practice shapes how the landscape looks and changes over time. The Alpine farming here still follows traditional methods that have been common in the mountains for generations.
Hikers can access the peak from Col du Chaussy via marked trails, with June through September offering the best conditions. Bring suitable equipment and allow time for the demanding climb.
The summit is the 27th highest peak among 93 mountains in the park with a prominence of 329 meters. This height and distinction make it a notable point in the local mountain landscape.
