The Cave of the Orjobet opens within the Salève mountain range at 1200 meters elevation, featuring natural limestone formations throughout its chambers.
Physicist and geologist Horace-Bénédict de Saussure discovered the cave in 1779 and named it after his guide François Orjobe, a local peasant.
The Geneva section of the Swiss Alpine Club established a dedicated path to the cave in 1905, transforming it into an accessible geological destination.
Visitors need to bring personal lighting equipment for exploration as the cave maintains its semi-wild state without artificial illumination systems.
The cave contains an unexpected realistic statue within its natural chambers, creating a striking contrast between artificial art and geological formations.
