Château de la Motte-Husson, Neo-Renaissance castle in Martigné-sur-Mayenne, France
The Château de la Motte-Husson is a castle in the Mayenne department near the small town of Martigné-sur-Mayenne, surrounded by a square moat. The 19th-century building shows several towers, various living quarters and grounds enclosed by meadows and trees.
Construction took place between 1868 and 1874 on an estate owned by the Baglion de la Dufferie family since 1600. After standing empty for 40 years, a new couple purchased the building in 2015 and began its restoration.
The family living here since 2015 shares French traditions with guests through cooking, gardening workshops and daily upkeep of the estate. Visitors witness how a noble residence functions today, blending domestic life with welcoming travelers into its rooms.
Guests can join seasonal events, stay overnight in some rooms and book tours of the grounds. The garden offers space for workshops, while the building opens its outdoor areas during warmer months.
A mounted wolf stands in the staircase hall, recalling the last animal of its kind shot from a window here. The taxidermy piece still shows how these creatures once moved through the region.
