Ahargo, Mountain summit in Soule, France
Ahargo is a mountain in the Soule region of the French Pyrenees, rising to 609 meters. The summit stands roughly 234 meters above the surrounding landscape of the Pyrénées-Atlantiques.
The mountain has long served as a geographical reference point for local communities in the French Basque Country. For centuries, residents and travelers used the summit to navigate and orient themselves in the foothills.
The mountain is part of the Soule region, where hikers and runners use traditional paths that have threaded through these Basque foothills for generations.
A yellow-marked trail starts from the parking area near Barcus village and leads to the summit. The round trip takes about three hours and involves moderate physical effort.
Three different markers sit at the summit: a geodesic surveying point, a cross, and an orientation table. This table helps visitors identify the surrounding Pyrenees peaks.
