Génos-Loudenvielle Lake, lac de barrage en France
Génos-Loudenvielle Lake is a reservoir covering about 32 hectares in the Louron valley, surrounded by mountains and forests in the Occitania region. The water is clear and calm, with walking paths around the shores where visitors can observe the surrounding landscape and local wildlife.
The lake was established in 1975 to supply water to local communities using the Neste de Louron river. Before its creation, the Louron valley was a passage route for commerce and agriculture, with shepherding and farming traditions that shaped the area's character.
The lake serves as a gathering place where locals and visitors engage in simple outdoor pursuits such as fishing, walking, and picnicking by the water. These customs have been passed down through generations in the Louron valley, creating a culture centered on appreciating nature and sharing quiet moments together.
The lake has accessible parking nearby and well-marked trails suitable for all fitness levels, with walking paths taking about 1.5 hours to complete around the full shore. Visitors can also access water activities, winter sports when conditions permit, and nearby facilities including picnic areas and rest spots.
During winter months, the lake sometimes freezes over, offering a rare opportunity for ice skating and snowshoeing on the frozen surface. This seasonal transformation gives the water an entirely different character and draws visitors back across different times of the year.
