The Jardin des Plantes spans 9,975 square meters of green space on the slopes of Croix-Rousse, featuring walking paths and multiple seating areas.
Established as part of the Benedictine Abbey of La Déserte, the garden transformed into a botanical learning center in 1814 before opening to the public in 1821.
The garden includes the Amphitheatre of the Three Gauls, connecting modern visitors to the ancient Roman heritage of Lyon.
Located at rue Lucien Sportisse in the 1st arrondissement, the garden remains open 24 hours daily and is accessible via bus lines S6 and S12.
In 1857, the entire collection of living plants was transferred to the new Parc de la Tête d'Or, transforming this space into a public recreation area.
