Maison Bergès

Maison Bergès is an industrial heritage museum in the French Alps devoted to the story of hydroelectric power. The building itself dates from the late 19th century and houses scientific instruments, technical documents, and original machinery from that era.

Engineer Aristide Bergès created one of the earliest hydroelectric works here in the late 19th century in the French Alps. His pioneering effort transformed the industrial development of the entire region.

The building displays Art Nouveau architectural features and retains decorative elements from the industrial era. These crafted details show how engineers and designers worked together during that period.

The museum is easy to access and offers audio guides in multiple languages to help understand the exhibits. It pays to allow enough time to explore both the displays and the architecture of the building itself.

The museum preserves original machinery and equipment showing how these first hydroelectric plants actually worked. You can see individual components and understand how water was converted into electricity.
