Pont de Ponsonnas, Road bridge in Ponsonnas, France.
Ponsonnas Bridge is a concrete structure spanning 103 meters above the Drac River, connecting both valley sides in the Isère department of southeastern France. The span stretches across rocky terrain with a simple, functional design in gray concrete with guard barriers.
Engineer Albert Caquot designed this concrete structure to replace an earlier suspension bridge, with completion and opening in 1941. This solution represented modern bridge engineering of its era.
The bridge has transformed into a center for extreme sports, particularly bungee jumping, which draws adventurous visitors from across Europe. This conversion shows how a practical structure became a destination for thrill-seekers and athletes.
The site has a wooden chalet for visitor reception, restrooms, and parking for approximately 150 cars and several buses. Most visitors come for extreme sports activities, so appropriate clothing and physical fitness should be considered.
Jumpers experience a free fall lasting about five seconds, reaching speeds of approximately 100 kilometers per hour during the descent. This makes the location one of Europe's highest bungee jumping sites.
