Okatse Canyon Natural Monument, Natural monument with canyon walkway in Imereti Region, Georgia

Okatse Canyon is a natural monument featuring a dramatic gorge carved through limestone rock in Georgia's Imereti region. A suspended metal walkway allows visitors to traverse the canyon's length while viewing the sheer rock walls and river below.

The canyon took shape over millions of years as the Okatse River gradually eroded through thick layers of limestone bedrock. This slow geological process created the deep gorge and towering rock formations visible today.

Local residents maintain traditional agricultural practices in the surrounding Gordi village, preserving methods passed down through generations near the canyon's entrance.

You can visit throughout the year, though warmer months tend to be more comfortable for the walk. Access begins with a marked path leading to the entrance, where metal stairs connect you to the suspended walkway.

A special viewpoint called Boga allows visitors to peer down at the canyon floor from directly above, revealing the sheer scale of the gorge. Natural stone bridges formed within the canyon showcase how varied erosion patterns created distinct geological features.
