Maranello, Industrial commune in Province of Modena, Italy
Maranello is a commune in the Province of Modena in Italy, spread across hilly terrain in Emilia-Romagna. The settlement divides between older residential quarters with narrow lanes and newer industrial zones that occupy large parts of the area.
Enzo Ferrari chose the place for his workshops in 1943 after relocating from Modena, laying the foundation for later development. In the following decades production of racing and road vehicles grew continuously.
The name of this place appears in medieval documents and refers to the long agricultural past of this area. Today you see mostly visitors with cameras in the streets, looking out for red sports cars.
The place can be explored easily on foot, with main points reachable within about an hour. Those arriving by car find parking mostly in the center and near the museum facilities.
The factory grounds include a private test track that winds through the production halls and remains normally invisible to outsiders. Occasionally you hear engines roaring when new models make their first laps.
