Castello di Levizzano Rangone, Medieval castle in Levizzano Rangone, Italy.
Castello di Levizzano Rangone is a castle with a square layout built from brick and stone walls. It is crowned by a protruding structure with Ghibelline-shaped merlons connected by arched roofing, creating a distinctive defensive appearance.
The fortress was built as a defense against Hungarian invasions in medieval times. The Bishop of Modena later granted it to Marquis Bonifacio of Tuscany, whose daughter was Matilde of Canossa, a powerful medieval figure.
The rooms display 16th-century wall paintings showing coats of arms, hunting scenes, and village landscapes. These frescoes tell stories about the noble families who lived here and their connection to the surrounding lands.
Visits to the castle are only possible through guided tours organized by the Castelvetro municipality. Each tour lasts about one hour and fifteen minutes and includes access to the museum inside.
Inside the castle, the ROSSO GRASPA Museum displays old farming tools, woodworking equipment, and historical photographs. These collections show how local farmers worked and the crafts skills that shaped the region's way of life.
