Mirandola, Historic commune in Province of Modena, Italy
Located in the Po Valley region of northern Italy, Mirandola stands as a commune with numerous medieval structures at an elevation of 18 meters.
The Pico family transformed Mirandola into a Renaissance city-fortress, ruling it from the 13th to 17th century until its acquisition by the Duchy of Modena in 1710.
The Renaissance philosopher Giovanni Pico della Mirandola developed his intellectual theories while residing in the Pico Castle during the 15th century.
The city maintains several bicycle paths connecting different areas, allowing visitors to explore local landmarks and sample traditional Emilian dishes like Maccherone al Pettine.
A 2012 earthquake damaged many structures, leading to extensive reconstruction projects that continue to restore buildings such as the Church of Santa Maria Maggiore.
