Su Nuraxi di Barumini, Bronze Age archaeological site in Barumini, Italy.

Su Nuraxi di Barumini is a Nuragic settlement featuring a central fortress surrounded by four corner towers linked by massive stone walls. The entire complex forms a large defensive structure from the Bronze Age with clear architectural divisions still visible across the site.

The fortress was built around 1500 BC and remained occupied until roughly 500 BC, making it a long-lasting Bronze Age settlement. Archaeologist Giovanni Lilliu brought the site to scientific attention in the 1950s, conducting the first systematic excavations and studies of the remains.

The settlement shows how people organized their community in the Bronze Age, with residential spaces arranged around the central stronghold. Over 200 stone dwellings remain visible today, offering insights into daily life and social structure of this ancient civilization.

The site is open daily to visitors with guided tours offered in multiple languages to explain the structures and history. The nearby Casa Zapata Museum displays artifacts from excavations, providing additional context for understanding the settlement.

The towers were constructed from basalt blocks quarried from the nearby Giara plateau without using mortar to bind them together. This dry-stone building technique allowed the ancient builders to create stable structures that could withstand seismic movement over thousands of years.
