Monza Circuit, Motorsport racing track in Monza, Italy
The Autodromo Nazionale di Monza is a motorsport racing track in the park of Monza, about 15 kilometers (nine miles) north of Milan. The track runs for 5793 meters and consists of ten turns, including a very long straight of 1100 meters that leads into two sharp chicanes.
The facility was built in 1922 in just 110 days by 3500 workers, making it the third purpose-built racing circuit in the world. Since then, there have been several renovations, especially in 1955 and in the late 1970s, when the curves were softened.
Since 1949, this venue has hosted the annual home race of Italian motorsport, with only one pause in 1980 during renovations. The stands fill with spectators dressed in red who cheer for the drivers.
Visitors can join driving programs with sports cars like Ferrari or Lamborghini throughout the year. It is advisable to check availability in advance, as some dates overlap with racing events.
Juan Pablo Montoya reached a top speed of 369 kilometers per hour (229 miles per hour) here in 2005. This mark still stands as one of the highest ever recorded during a Formula 1 race.
