Santa Dorotea, Baroque church in Trastevere, Rome, Italy.
Santa Dorotea is a Baroque church in Trastevere with a symmetrical facade showing typical features of Roman religious buildings from its period. The interior contains multiple marble altars and religious artworks spanning different artistic periods.
The church was founded in 1401 and underwent major reconstruction in 1738 under architect Giovanni Battista Nolli. This renovation followed the building's transfer to the Friars Minor Conventual and significantly transformed its appearance.
This church serves as a gathering place for the faithful in Trastevere and shows how sacred spaces shape daily spiritual life. Inside, both simple devotional areas and elaborate artistic works reflect different phases of religious and artistic expression.
Access is best during regular religious services when the doors remain open to visitors. It is wise to check service times in advance since opening hours can vary.
In 1517, the sacristy housed the founding of the Oratory of Divine Love by Saint Cajetan. This organization became an important center for spiritual renewal in Rome.
