Ozieri

Ozieri is a municipality in the Province of Sassari in Sardinia, situated at a highland elevation surrounded by rolling terrain. The town spreads across a substantial area characterized by Mediterranean features typical of this part of the island.

Archaeological discoveries in the Grotto of San Michele date back to around 3500 BC, revealing that people lived and settled in this area from ancient times. The findings were significant enough that scholars named an entire prehistoric culture after this location.

The Cathedral of the Immacolata holds a painted panel showing the Madonna di Loreto created by regional artists long ago. The artwork inside reflects how people here have expressed their faith and artistic skills over the generations.

The nearest railway station is located in the Chilivani district and provides connections to other major towns across Sardinia. From there, visitors can reach places like Olbia, Porto Torres, and the regional capital with relative ease.

A Roman arch from the 2nd century AD crosses a valley and is still called by its local name Pont'ezzu, though only portions of the original structure remain standing today. Seeing this ancient structure gives visitors a window into how infrastructure was built nearly 2000 years ago.
