Pietra di Bismantova

The Pietra di Bismantova rises 300 meters above the surrounding landscape, forming a narrow plateau measuring one kilometer in length and 240 meters in width.

Dante Alighieri visited this geological formation in 1306 during his journey from Padova to Lunigiana, incorporating it into his description of Monte del Purgatorio.

The mountain holds significance in local traditions, with regular celebrations and events taking place at its base throughout the calendar year.

Visitors can access the summit through well-maintained trails, with the ascent taking approximately 45 minutes from the parking area at the mountain base.

Wild horses maintain the natural balance of the plateau's ecosystem through grazing, contributing to the preservation of local flora at 1,047 meters elevation.
