Castelnuovo di Noarna

Castelnuovo di Noarna is a medieval castle in Nogaredo featuring a central keep, defensive walls, battlements, and a watchtower. Today it operates as a winery while its defensive structures remain visible as a testament to its original purpose.

The castle was built in the 11th century to guard the Vallagarina valley against threats. Over time, it passed between local noble families who each left their mark on the structure.

The St. Ruprecht Chapel holds a column from 1580 showing Mary's coronation alongside Saint Nicholas and Saint Francis in baroque style. This religious artwork reveals how faith was expressed through the castle's spaces.

The castle sits at Via Castelnuovo 19 in Nogaredo but does not welcome public visits and remains a private property. You can view the exterior from a distance to appreciate its structure and towers.

The castle's kennels were repurposed as a prison for women during the witch trials in Nogaredo between 1646 and 1647. This dark period reveals how buildings transformed their function under extreme circumstances.
