Castle of Castellano

Castle of Castellano rises on a hilltop with steep slopes on three sides, featuring a square layout and a prominent watchtower at its center. A long defensive wall system extends down the hillside to connect the main structure with a separate tower positioned below.

The castle was founded in the 12th century and changed hands to the Castelbarco family during the 13th century. Control passed to the Counts of Lodron in 1456, marking a shift in regional power.

The castle displays medieval architectural features with crenellated walls that reflect defensive building practices of its era. These elements show how medieval families protected their territory and demonstrated their power through construction.
