Rifugio Bogani, Mountain hut in Esino Lario, Italy
Rifugio Bogani is a mountain hut at 1816 meters elevation on the northern side of Northern Grigna, surrounded by larch forest. The facility holds 50 beds and indoor dining spaces for 50 people, plus 45 seats at outdoor tables, with electricity and hot water available.
Built between 1905 and 1906 by the Monza section of the Italian Alpine Club, this hut was the first refuge constructed in the Grigna range. Its construction marked the beginning of organized mountain infrastructure in this region.
The refuge is tied to local mountain communities and serves food made from regional products sourced by traditional herders in the surrounding pastures. Visitors experience how people continue to work the land using age-old methods.
Reaching the hut requires moderate mountain hiking along established trails accessible most of the year. Visitors should prepare for changing conditions and bring appropriate gear such as sturdy footwear and weather protection.
The hut has no natural drinking water sources due to the geology of the area, so all drinking water is collected from rainfall. This dependency shows how the remote facility must be entirely self-reliant.
