Porta di Prada

Porta di Prada is a natural limestone arch in the Grigne Mountains at roughly 1,650 meters elevation. The opening spans about 8 meters wide and rises about 15 meters high, forming a distinctive feature in the mountain terrain.

The arch formed over millions of years through natural erosion in Triassic limestone of the Esino Formation. Water and weathering gradually carved away the rock, creating this opening in the mountainside.

The site holds meaning for local climbers who placed commemorative plaques and a cross beneath the arch. These markers show how important this place is to the mountaineering community in the region.

The route to Porta di Prada starts from the Cainallo parking lot and follows hiking trail number 24. The hike takes roughly one hour, so wear sturdy shoes and bring water for the climb.

From beneath the arch, clear days offer views of both Lake Como and the northern Grigna peak. This unexpected vantage point makes the site special for those seeking mountain and water views together.
