Mandello del Lario

Mandello del Lario is a municipality on Lake Como's eastern shore, organized into several districts including Olcio, Maggiana, and Tonzanico. The town sits in the Province of Lecco in Lombardy, where mountain terrain meets lakeside areas.

The town originally belonged to the Province of Como but was transferred to the Province of Lecco in 1992, marking a major administrative reorganization. Since 1921, it has been home to the Moto Guzzi motorcycle manufacturer, giving the area international prominence.

Saint George's Church stands at the town center with 15th-century frescoes depicting religious scenes that reflect the region's artistic heritage. The painted walls showcase the local tradition of fresco work typical of the Como Lake area.

The best way to explore the town is on foot, as residential areas are relatively compact with good paths to the lakeshore. Spring through autumn offers the most pleasant weather and fewer crowds for visiting.

The Moto Guzzi factory, based here for over a century, draws motorcycle enthusiasts from around the world, especially during the annual Worldwide Guzzi Days event. Many residents work directly or indirectly for the company, which has shaped the town's identity and character.
