Moregallo, Mountain summit and viewpoint in Valmadrera, Italy.
Moregallo is a mountain summit rising to 1276 meters near Valmadrera, offering views across several lakes and the surrounding lowland regions below. The peak is accessed by marked hiking trails that connect from different starting points through the forested slopes.
The mountain trails developed over centuries as local communities expanded agriculture and grazing across the higher elevations. Countless dry stone walls running through the landscape represent how people historically organized and managed these steep territories.
Shepherd communities traditionally used the mountain shelters to produce and store cheese, a practice that shaped life here for centuries. Visitors walking upward can still observe signs of this heritage in the restored stone buildings scattered across the slopes.
The terrain is steep and requires good footwear and steady fitness, but the routes are clearly marked throughout. Starting early in the day helps ensure you have plenty of daylight for the full ascent and descent.
The Sambrosera spring at around 715 meters provides natural water along the route and offers a good resting spot partway up. This water source becomes important since drinking water is otherwise scarce during the hike.
