Lierna Castle

Lierna Castle sits on a peninsula in Lake Como, composed of connected stone buildings positioned at 201 meters elevation. The medieval structure has been restored and parts of it are open to visitors.

The fortress was built in the 10th century on top of Roman foundations and became a focal point of rivalry between Milan and Como. These territorial disputes shaped its role until the early 1100s.

The chapel inside honors two saints and witnessed an important ducal ceremony during the 1500s. Visitors can see this sacred space today and understand how worldly power and religious life were intertwined here.
