Palazzolo–Paratico railway, Heritage railway line in Lombardy, Italy
The Palazzolo-Paratico railway is a railway line in Lombardy that runs for about 10 kilometers through the Regional Park of North Oglio River. It connects the Bergamo-Brescia railway route to Lake Iseo and passes through an area of river valleys and small towns.
The line opened in 1876 and played an important role in moving goods from steel mills in Lovere and cement factories in Pilzone. Regular service ended in 1998, but today a heritage train service runs here for visitors.
The Sebino Express operates with vintage carriages from different decades, letting passengers experience how Italians traveled by rail in earlier times. The trains keep their original interiors and details, giving a sense of authentic railway journeys from the past.
The trains are easy to board and offer seating with views of the landscape and the lake. Regular stops allow visitors to get on and off along the route, and the journey takes about an hour.
The line had special docks at the station where train carriages were loaded onto barges to cross the lake and reach industrial plants. This unusual mix of rail and water transport was an ingenious solution for moving goods at the time.
