Zingonia, Residential district in Verdellino, Italy.
Zingonia is an urban district spanning across multiple municipalities in Bergamo province that mixes residential zones with industrial areas and shops. The area also includes sports facilities and serves as home to people from many countries.
Architect Franco Negri designed this urban project in the 1960s following businessman Renzo Zingone's vision to create an industrial and residential community. The area developed as a planned settlement to bring employment and housing to the Bergamo region.
The population of Zingonia reached 4,234 residents in 2007, with more than half being international residents, creating a mixed community.
The area is relatively flat and easy to walk through, with paths connecting various residential blocks and shops. Orientation is straightforward since the streets follow a regular grid pattern and signs mark facilities.
In 2019, six tower buildings were demolished to renew the district and address structural decline. These demolitions were part of a broader effort to make the neighborhood more modern and livable.
