Hirzerhütte, Mountain refuge in Sarntal Alps, Italy
The Hirzerhütte mountain refuge stands at 1,983 meters elevation on the western flank of Mount Hirzer, providing accommodation for 35 guests.
Established in 1874 by the German-Austrian Alpine Club, this refuge was nationalized in 1923 and later acquired by the Kofler family in 1943.
The refuge restaurant prepares South Tyrolean dishes using local agricultural products, including traditional smoked ham, Kaminwurzen sausages, and homemade nut bread.
The refuge operates from June through October, accessible via the Hirzer cable car system or hiking trails from the Tall mid-station.
Since 2012, the refuge maintains an alpaca farm at 2,000 meters altitude, producing wool products and offering visitors interaction with these animals.
