Established around 60 BCE by the wealthy consul and general, Lucius Licinius Lucullus.
Once a symbol of opulence and luxury, famed for their grandeur and horticultural wealth.
The remnants of the gardens can now be explored as part of Villa Borghese's gardens in Rome.
Regarded as one of the first recorded examples of an urban villa with expansive private gardens.
