San Lorenzo in Damaso, Minor basilica in Parione district, Rome, Italy

The basilica features three naves separated by quadrangular pillars and includes a five-nave vestibule within the Palazzo della Cancelleria building.

Pope Damasus I established the first church at this location around 380 CE, building it within his residence according to documented records.

The church contains notable artworks including the cenotaph by Bernini and a statue of Carlo Borromeo created by Stefano Maderno.

Visitors can access the basilica through entrance number 1 at Piazza della Cancelleria, located on the right side of the palace facade.

Archaeological excavations between 1988 and 1991 revealed the church was constructed above a Roman mithraeum, an ancient underground temple.
