San Pietro delle Immagini

San Pietro delle Immagini is a Romanesque church in Bulzi featuring alternating red trachyte and white limestone on its facade. The exterior displays blind arches and detailed stone carvings that cover the entire building.

The church was built in the late 12th century and shows features from different building phases. Early Romanesque elements were later complemented by Gothic additions.

The church holds a polychrome wooden Deposition sculpture from the 13th century, representing medieval woodcarving traditions in Sardinia. These carved figures show the artistic skill and religious devotion typical of that period.

The building stands along Strada Statale 134 di Castelsardo and can be reached by private transport or on foot through the Anglona countryside. The location offers a quiet setting in the rural Sardinian landscape.

The lunette above the entrance portal shows a bas-relief with three figures, where the central one wears a distinctive pointed Phrygian cap. The flanking figures display contrasting facial expressions that set this artwork apart.
