Cathedral of Our Lady of the Assumption

The Cathedral of Our Lady of the Assumption is a Gothic cathedral in Saluzzo featuring pointed arches, ornate portals, and a striking steeple completed in 1517 with an open-work spire. The building uses reddish and yellow sandstone in its construction and houses three aisles with detailed interior decoration.

The cathedral began construction in 1491, replacing an earlier Christian basilica and Romanesque church that occupied the site before. During wartime, the building suffered damage that was later repaired when the detailed pulpit underwent restoration.

Inside, three aisles hold frescoes that fill the walls with religious imagery, including a notable Crucifixion scene on the tower wall featuring Mary, John, and Saint Barbara. These paintings shape how visitors experience the space and give it visual depth.

The building welcomes visitors and remains in active religious use with regular services throughout the week. Nearby parking and public transportation options make it straightforward to reach.
