Castello di Avise

Castello di Avise, Medieval castle in Avise, Italy.

Castello di Avise is a castle built in the late 15th century with a three-story main structure and a square tower that rises above the surrounding area. Inside, rooms contain period furniture and wooden carvings, and the property now operates as a restaurant and gathering space.

The castle was built at the end of the 15th century by Bonifacio d'Avise, a local noble family figure. Preserved design documents from later periods show how the building was maintained and adapted over the years.

The Hall of Brackets displays wooden shelves carved with animals, monsters, and figures dressed in period clothing from the 15th century. These carvings show the skilled craftsmanship and visual storytelling that was important to the people living here at that time.

The castle sits in the Aosta Valley region and is privately owned but welcomes visitors who come to dine at its restaurant. It is best to plan ahead since access is tied to dining service rather than general touring.

The entrance gate displays the motto of the Lords of Avise, a Latin phrase that warns against hasty judgment. This historical inscription remains visible and offers a window into the values and wit of the family who ruled from this place.
