Masino Castle

Masino Castle is a castle and palazzo museum that rises on a hill overlooking the Canavese plain, featuring multiple towers and elegant rooms within its structure. Its terraces offer views across the landscape, while the interior preserves the furnished chambers and halls of a wealthy noble family.

The castle was established in the early 11th century by the Valperga family, who were descendants of King Arduino of Italy. Over the following centuries, the family maintained their residence here, allowing the building and its collections to grow and evolve.

The castle holds a substantial library filled with historical books that span centuries of Italian knowledge and collecting traditions. Walking through the rooms, you see how the family who lived here shaped their spaces to reflect their interests and values over time.

The castle can be visited on weekdays and weekends, and it is worthwhile to allow time for both the interior rooms and the outdoor gardens. Comfortable walking shoes are a good idea since there are multiple levels and terraces to explore.

The castle's gardens contain one of Italy's largest mazes, with winding paths that twist through the landscaped grounds in an intricate design. Walking through it offers a playful challenge as visitors try to navigate from entrance to center and back out again.
