Castle of Rapallo, Coastal fortification in Rapallo, Italy
The rectangular castle stands on the Gulf of Rapallo with rounded corners, a central square tower, and a stone staircase entrance facing the sea.
Following a devastating raid by corsair Dragut in 1549, the Republic of Genoa ordered the construction of this defensive structure, completed within one year.
The castle contains a chapel dedicated to Saint Cajetan from 1688, reflecting the combination of military defense and religious practices of the period.
The fortress opens its doors for exhibitions and cultural events throughout the year, with the main entrance accessible from Via Montebello.
Every July 3rd, the castle becomes the centerpiece of a celebration featuring a simulated burning through fireworks and colored smoke displays.
