Museo d'Arte Sacra della Marsica

The Museo d'Arte Sacra della Marsica occupies the Piccolomini Castle and displays religious artworks, archaeological finds, and liturgical objects spanning the 6th to 18th centuries. The collection includes paintings, sculptures, and everyday items that document the spiritual life of the region across multiple periods.

The fortress was built in the 14th century by the Berardi family and passed to the Piccolomini family in the 15th century. Later it was converted into a museum to preserve the artistic and cultural treasures of the Marsica region.

The collection displays works by local and regional artists whose religious paintings have been venerated in the area for centuries. These pieces reflect the long tradition of sacred art that shaped the Marsica valley's identity.

The museum is arranged across multiple halls making it easy to explore the collections from different periods. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes and allow time to move through the various exhibition areas.

The museum holds the Torlonia Collection featuring artifacts recovered when Lake Fucino was drained, including ancient coins and classical sculptures. These findings offer insight into ancient life in this fertile region.
