Borgo Universo, Open-air museum in Aielli, Italy.
Borgo Universo is an open-air museum in Aielli with 41 large murals painted across buildings throughout the village. The artworks spread across the urban space to form a continuous artistic narrative.
The project began in 2017, inspired by Filippo Angelitti, a local astronomer born in 1856 who dedicated himself to studying the night sky. His work observing celestial objects shaped the artistic vision behind this place.
International artists create new murals each year during the August festival, weaving street art with themes of the cosmos and space exploration.
The site is open year-round for self-guided exploration at your own pace. Guided tours on weekends provide additional information about artistic techniques and the stories behind each mural.
A connected observatory called Torre delle Stelle merges scientific observation of the sky with the art installations on display here. This rare combination lets visitors experience art and science together in one location.
