Abbazia di San Lorenzo al Lanzo, Romanesque abbey in Civitella Paganico, Italy.
The Abbey of San Lorenzo al Lanzo consists of a central nave with a porch-adorned Romanesque facade near the Lanzo River.
The Ardengheschi family established the monastery in the 12th century near their Castle of San Lorenzo, which later became abbey property.
The capitals on the entrance columns display intricate carvings of grotesque figures and animals, reflecting medieval religious art traditions.
The restored church building stands along the former Via del Sale trade route, connecting Siena to Porto Ercole through Paganico.
Following a severe storm in 2005 that caused roof collapse, the structure underwent extensive renovations completed in early 2008.
