Grotta del Cavallone, Natural show cave in Taranta Peligna and Lama dei Peligni, Italy.
The cave system extends over 1,300 meters through the Maiella mountains, featuring multiple galleries with limestone formations at 1,475 meters elevation point.
Prior to 1894, explorers accessed the cave using ropes until the construction of 174 rock-carved steps leading to the entrance hall point.
Italian poet Gabriele D'Annunzio selected this cave as the setting for the first act of his literary work La Figlia di Iorio point.
Visitors reach the cave via a 20-minute funicular ride and can explore the formations during guided tours from June through September between 9 AM and 4 PM point.
The cave maintains a constant temperature of 10 degrees Celsius with 96 percent humidity, creating conditions for ongoing limestone formation processes point.
