Antro del Corchia, Solutional cave system in Apuan Alps, Tuscany, Italy.
The cave network extends over 70 kilometers underground, featuring passages and tunnels that reach depths of 1,200 meters below the surface.
Local miners discovered the cave system while searching for marble deposits, when they noticed air flowing through a small ground opening.
Scientists examine the cave's rock formations to study Earth's climate patterns from three million years ago, when the Apuan Alps emerged from the seabed.
The guided tours last two hours, with visitors taking a shuttle bus from Levigliani village to the cave entrance at 860 meters elevation.
The cave maintains a constant temperature of 7 degrees Celsius and contains numerous mineral formations shaped by water over millions of years.
